We were interested to catch up with Rosie and wanted to find out how she is managing as a creative and business person in the early stages of parenthood ...

Colony: Hey there Rosie. Congratulations on the recent birth of your beautiful boy. How is the running of and creating in your business going since motherhood?

Thanks so much! He is a dreamboat and I’m enjoying him more every day. I can’t say it’s been easy - to ‘let go’ as much as I thought I wanted to has been a challenge. I’m a very proactive person, and enjoy projects in all forms, so focusing on just little E, has been a learning curve. My brain has been working away whilst caring for him however, and I’ve found that my creativity has hit a new high, ideas wise! I’m excited to put these into action.

C: As parents ourselves, we know all about ‘the juggle’. Are you a planner or will you take running your business as a parent one step at a time?

I’m such a planner. Before E arrived, I made sure I have enough product to last me a few months, and set up all kinds of automated actions to make life a little easier. It has definitely helped me to continue to enjoy running my business, and has allowed me additional precious time with my little boy.

C: We enjoyed viewing and admired your sewing projects posted on your social media / blog during the late stages of your pregnancy. Could we see any clothing pieces by RDK available for purchase in the future?

Now seems like a good time to tell you (and the world! *exclusive*) that my next collection WILL include clothing. It’s been a big, scary step for me to take, but I feel that RDK stands for more than just leather luggage, and can encompass womenswear on all kinds of levels. I’ve made some important decisions regarding production too, to allow me to fulfill the demand for RDK goodies, and again, give me some time with my most important project yet! All will be revealed!

C: We know you graduated from Falmouth University and still live in the South West of the UK. How does living and working in the SW feel for you? Where are your favourite spots?

South West is Best as they say! I love living here. I’m originally from the Isle of Wight, and never thought I’d find the same balance of countryside and coastal landscapes, but here we are, missioning through farmers fields to find that perfect swimming spot. I remind myself regularly how lucky I am to be in such close proximity to the most beautiful views! For me, a day at Mothercombe beach is enough to satisfy the sea-craving and fill my toes with sand. I feel privileged to live and work in Devon.
